Atari Jaguar
Upright demo cabinet with cat eye topper
The story
Atari's last console got a kiosk with real attitude. The Jaguar launched in test markets in late 1993 and went nationwide in 1994, pitched as the first 64 bit system.
The console never caught on, which means fewer kiosks shipped and fewer were saved. Today it is one of the most striking kiosks from the 90s.
Design and hardware
- A black upright cabinet shaped like an arcade machine.
- A cat head topper with big yellow eyes sits above the red Jaguar logo.
- A CRT sits behind a textured bezel, with game art panels beside it.
- A single Jaguar controller is mounted on the angled control panel, and the side art repeats the Jaguar logo in pink.
What it played
Jaguar cartridges like Cybermorph, the pack in game at launch, plus later titles.
Collector notes
- The cat eye topper is the part most often missing or cracked.
- Check the mounted controller. Jaguar pads are large and wear quickly.
- A complete working unit is a real centerpiece for any collection.
