Sega Saturn

NetLink kiosk

The story

The Saturn arrived as a surprise in May 1995, shipped early to just four chains: Toys R Us, Babbage's, Electronics Boutique and Software Etc. Its kiosks followed.

This version promoted the NetLink, Sega's modem that let the Saturn browse the web and play online. It is one of the stranger and more colorful kiosks of the era.

Design and hardware

  • A tall blue and orange cabinet with a lighted SEGA sign on top.
  • A CRT framed in blue sits under a Sega Saturn NetLink header.
  • Big Sonic art covers the front and side, with a lit blue column down the middle.
  • Controllers rest in wire baskets on the front, and an orange lit bay holds the console.

What it played

The NetLink web browser and online demos, alongside Saturn games.

Variants to know

Standard Saturn kiosk The main Saturn demo kiosk used before the NetLink push.

Collector notes

  • Check that the NetLink modem is still in the console.
  • Sonic art panels are the first thing collectors look at. Watch for fading and peeling.
  • Wire baskets and the top sign are often missing.
