Xbox 360
Design Phase kiosk
The story
The Xbox 360 kiosk came from the US firm Design Phase and was built in the USA, the UK and Australia. It launched with the console in November 2005.
It was one of the first kiosks built around a flat screen from day one.
Design and hardware
- A white cabinet that matches the console, with a 17 or 23 inch Samsung screen.
- Two wired controllers on tethers.
- A kiosk box under the console switches it into kiosk mode when the console is attached.
What it played
Demos loaded through kiosk mode, updated over the console's long life.
Variants to know
Collector notes
- The kiosk box is the key part. Without it the console runs as a normal 360.
- Check which Samsung screen is fitted; the 23 inch is model LE23R51BX.
- Watch for the red ring issue on the console inside, just like any 360.
