The story
The PlayStation 2 kiosk is the one a whole generation camped at in Circuit City and Best Buy. It went into stores for the October 2000 launch.
The display company Rapid Displays built the main North American unit. Its model number, RD97202, is printed on the back.
Design and hardware
- A dark blue floor kiosk with a CRT and tethered controllers.
- The console sits locked in the cabinet.
- When the slim PS2 arrived, Sony rolled out a blue curvy kiosk to hold it.
What it played
Demo discs with playable levels, plus retail games at some stores.
