GameCube
Standard GameCube kiosk
The story
The GameCube arrived at the peak of the kiosk era, and it shows. Beyond Nintendo's own kiosk, several big retailers built custom fixtures, which makes the GameCube one of the most varied kiosk families to collect.
The standard North American kiosk and a box style kiosk both shipped to stores in the US and Canada.
Design and hardware
- The standard kiosk is a purple and black floor unit with a CRT, a lighted header and tethered controllers.
- The console sits behind a clear cover in the lower cabinet.
- Store versions varied widely. Some held all three consoles of the generation in one fixture.
What it played
Interactive demo discs with a menu of playable levels and trailers, plus full retail games in some stores.
Players remember Star Wars Rogue Squadron II running on these at Target.
Variants to know
Collector notes
- Store specific fixtures are rarer, but they are huge. Plan how you will move one before you buy.
- Check for the key, both controller tethers and the demo disc.
- The standard kiosk is the practical pick for most collections.
